Approximately 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Officers state they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other marked cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials report early analysis suggest the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; authorities are currently not informed of any injuries in association with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the public for details.
A senior official said the incident made him speechless and had to be resolved promptly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, referring to the killing of nine victims by a assailant targeting individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
