Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in power within the city.

Note: Revealing details for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Warrior Group Revealed

Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of characters who will split off from the primary party to begin their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.

This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might appear unsuited, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the group knows exactly where to head next after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose death started the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.

The antagonist then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, above the urban center, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a individual motive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, desires retribution.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the region and advises that it is a dangerous place.
  • The strong character and The healer, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their position as important members in the powerful family could help the group reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The grateful character swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The rogue and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The target is marked for death by House Halovar.

This leaves them no alternative but to head to the northern region in quest for the traitor.

Future Episodes

Based on the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Questers and Planners groups.

Audiences can anticipate learning which adventurers will be where in the story’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on next week.
